The Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services (MCAAS) touches the lives of over 45,000 residents each year through a network of services and programs available for older county residents to help them remain as independent as possible while they age. MCAAS also plays a key role in the human services system within MontgomeryCounty by assisting low-income adults, families and physically disabled adults to achieve self-sufficiency and independence. By contacting one of our local offices, consumers can become connected to important programs such as senior center services, comprehensive assessment, care management, in-home services, information and referral, caregiver support programs, protective services, adult daily living centers, and other important services and programs which assist county residents as part of a comprehensive continuum of care.
During Older Americans Month, Montgomery County honored its oldest residents, those aged 100 years and above, for their significant contributions toward shaping the culture, economy, and history of our communities. Over two hundred residents will reach age 100 and beyond this year in Montgomery County, and so to highlight the Older Americans Month theme of “Age Strong, Live Long”, a special celebration was held to celebrate our centenarians and their contributions toward building strong communities across our county through one hundred years or more of our history.
Over sixty volunteers came forward to assist and to plan a wonderful experience for the dozens of centenarians in attendance. Through the support of numerous sponsors and a planning team, this first Centenarian Celebration was a successful day and will now become an annual event within Montgomery County.
